Fort Lauderdale police say they are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a 16-year-old bicyclist seriously injured this week.

The boy, Termaine Toney, of Fort Lauderdale, was struck while riding his bicycle by a dark-colored sedan in the 400 block of West Davie Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police spokeswoman Detective DeAnna Garcia.

The boy’s mother, Johnea McCrea, said her son, who was suffered broken bones and now is in a hospital bed, doesn’t recall the incident.

“He's in and out, not remembering what actually happened to him,” she said.

Toney had been southbound on Southwest Fourth Avenue, when sedan that was westbound on West Davie Boulevard struck him, Garcia said.

Toney was knocked to the ground, and the sedan didn’t stop, Garcia said. The sedan likely has windshield and front-end damage, she said.

McCrea said she thought “that’s a coward act to hit someone and leave them like nothing happened.”

She added: “They left him, to me, for dead ’cause they didn't turn around to see if he was OK or anything like that.”
