A homeowner fatally shot a man suspected of burglarizing his property in a northwest Miami-Dade County neighborhood early Thursday, police said.
Hollywood Building Evacuated After Report of Shots Fired
Dennis Law, 49, shot Ernest Holdman, 31, who he believed was stealing his lawn equipment from a trailer on his property at 1815 NW 121st St., Miami-Dade Police said.
Law has been fully cooperative with investigators and released pending further investigation, according to police.
Many neighbors heard a car alarm going off followed by gunshots Thursday.
"It was pow, pow, pow and then it was a final one, pow," said neighbor Willie Johnson, who heard the shots.
Frank Hall, who lives on the block where the shooting happened, came home to crime scene tape after spending the night at a friend's.

"It was quite a shock when I turned the corner here. I didn't realize what was going on," said Hall.
The body was still in the man's backyard as Miami-Dade Police investigated the shooting.
