A 14-year-old suspect turned himself in and confessed to shooting the man who staggered into a South Miami post office for help earlier this week, police said.

South Miami Police said Friday that the juvenile suspect turned himself in Thursday, and was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. It wasn’t known if he has an attorney.

Nicholas Carr, 20, was shot on the 6900 block of Southwest 59th Place Monday morning after a confrontation with the suspect, who was on a bicycle, according to police.

Carr walked into the post office at 5927 Southwest 70th Street with a gunshot wound in his shoulder. Employees called 911 and he was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police said.

Carr is recovering from his wound, police spokesman Maj. Rene Landa said Friday.

Police said they cracked the case after gathering evidence, including surveillance video, with the community’s assistance.
