The man charged with murdering his teen girlfriend in Hialeah appeared in court Monday where he pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Yoan Raul Dominguez, 21, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Genesis Fonseca, who was found shot to death last month in her mother's home.

Fonseca's family attended Monday's brief arraignment, where her mother started to make her way towards him, lunged forward and spit at Dominguez.

The mother was pulled away and Judge William Thomas ordered the family out of the courtroom.

“All we need is justice, I want him to pay,” said Fonseca’s grandmother.

Police said Dominguez and Fonseca were at the home in the 6300 block of W. 27th Avenue when the shooting happened. Fonseca's mother, who wasn't home at the time of the shooting, found her daughter's body covered in a bloody blanket, a relative said.

Dominguez fled the scene but was arrested the next day, police said. A .38-caliber revolver, which is believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered, police said.

He has been ordered held without bond and was appointed a public defender.

Fonseca was the mother of a 1-year-old child.
