Darrius Johnson, 22, has been taken into custody in her death, police said.

Police said Johnson stabbed Gooden multiple times Sunday morning before he attacked an Geraldine Price, elderly woman in her apartment about four blocks away, in the 2800 block of Northwest 55th Avenue.

As Johnson was attacking the woman, he was stabbed by the woman's nephew, Gerald Curtis, who called 911, police said.

Price, who had been wearing a pink robe and laughing on the telephone with a friend, later said that Johnson had told her that he thought a pink elephant was laughing at him.

"I tore open my blinds and see this guy jumping on my auntie, just throwing her everywhere and punching her and hitting her with a chair," Gerald Curtis said.

Officers arrived in time to catch Johnson, who tried to flee the scene on foot, police said. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment for his injuries.

Once he was in custody at the hospital, Johnson started talking to an officer and told him he had been in his argument with his girlfriend the night before, according to an arrest affidavit.

When the officer asked Johnson where his girlfriend was, he said "she's in heaven," the affidavit said. "I kept on stabbing her but she just wouldn't die."

Johnson told the officer that he thought he killed her, and police were sent to the house for a welfare check, the affidavit said.

When the officers got to the house, they found a trail of blood on the floor that led to a back bedroom where they found Gooden's body on the floor with a steak knife next to her, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, Johnson stabbed Gooden and beat her with an X-Box gaming system, which was also found at the scene with an extensive amount of blood on it.

Under police questioning, Johnson said he and Gooden had been discussing having his mother move into the home but Gooden was against it, the affidavit said.

When Johnson was asked where Monica was, he replied that "Monica should be brutally murdered," the affidavit said.

Johnson told detectives he knew he had to sacrifice someone with a Taurus astrological sign and he spent hours deciding who he was going to sacrifice, the affidavit said.

He also said Gooden had control over his spirit and that he sacrificed her for the betterment of himself and Gooden, the affidavit said.

Johnson also told police he fought Gooden "like he was fighting a dragon" and "felt like a new man afterwards," the affidavit said.

In addition to being charged in Gooden's death, Johnson is facing a burglary with battery charge, police said. He was being held without bond and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

Curtis told NBC 6 South Florida he was napping when he heard his aunt screaming from the porch.

He said he saw Johnson punching and throwing his aunt around and ran at him with a knife.

"I kept stabbing and stabbing, he kept coming," Curtis said. "I just kept stabbing to back him off."

Neighbors said Gooden was in her 20s and had moved in to the area about a month ago. One neighbor said she heard a disturbance at the home Sunday before the body was found.

"The music was loud and then they said there was a dead woman in there," neighbor Tanena Love said. "I mean, the kids were running up the street."
