Ten students were taken to a hospital for precaution Thursday after a student at Norland Middle School in Miami Gardens grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it around, according to school district spokesman John Schuster.
All the students at the hospital have since been treated and released, Schuster said.
The student accused of spraying the extinguisher, an eighth-grader, has been arrested on charges of aggravated battery, discharging the extinguisher and disruption of a school function, Schuster said.
The student's name wasn't released.
“Everybody was just following him out one of the buildings and he opened the fire extinguisher thingy, and he just started spraying it outside," said a student who witnessed the incident, who did not give his name.
The witness said one of his friends inhaled the extinguisher fumes.
“I saw my friend, she was coughing and stuff. Throwing up," he said.
