A portion of Alligator Alley from western Broward County to Collier County was closed Tuesday morning due to poor visibility from brush fires and heavy fog, officials said.

Interstate 75 from U.S. 27 over to Mile Marker 101 in Collier County was closed in both directions around 3 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Visibility was as low as 50 feet at some points on Alligator Alley, the FHP said.

Anyone hoping to get to Naples will have to take U.S. 27 south to Krome Avenue and over to Tamiami Trail, FHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.

It was later reported that a portion of Krome Avenue in both directions was closed due to heavy fog.

U.S. 27 northbound was also closed from Alligator Alley all the way up to State Road 80 Palm Beach County.

A dense fog advisory had been issued for Miami-Dade and Broward Tuesday until 9 a.m.

Authorities will continue to monitor the driving conditions and will open the roadways back up once the smoke and fog clear, Wysocky said.

A portion of Alligator Alley was closed Monday due to smoke from a brush fire at Big Cypress National Preserve but was later reopened.
