Officers investigating a robbery in southwest Miami-Dade were forced to open fire after a man drove through the crime scene and crashed into a patrol car late Sunday, police said.
The bizarre incident began with a robbery at a home in the area of Southwest 115th Avenue and Miller Drive around 10:30 p.m., Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.
About an hour later, while officers were investigating the robbery at the scene, a man drove through the crime scene tape at a high rate of speed and crashed into a police car, Zabaleta said.

Officers opened fire on the car, and the driver suffered minor injuries, Zabaleta said. The unidentified man was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital, and it's unknown if his injuries were a result of the crash or police-involved shooting.
None of the officers were injured, Zabaleta said.
As the shooting incident happened, two people were admitted to Kendall Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds. The shooting victims weren't related to the police-involved shooting but police are trying to determine if they may be linked to the earlier robbery, Zabaleta said.

"These individuals were not impacted at all, were not related to the police shooting," Zabaleta said. "They are suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and again, we're not going to discard the possibility that these individuals were involved in the original robbery."
Police are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
