A Rottweiler was killed after a bee attack in West Park Thursday, authorities said.
Robert Demark, 65, was washing his 6-year-old dog in his backyard at 4929 SW 22nd St. There is a large tree with bees in it there, and a swarm of them attacked, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said.
Someone called 911, and when fire rescue personnel arrived on the scene, they saved Demark and pulled the Rottweiler from the bees, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
The owner drove his dog to an animal hospital, but it did not survive, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said.
A bee removal service was expected to deal with the bees. It wasn’t clear what type they were.
