On Monday's night battle rounds on "The Voice," South Florida's own Monique Abbadie, 21, fell to her feet after learning she was safe on Team Shakira.
"Watching it again is a little bit nerve-wracking 'cause, I mean, you know what's going to happen," Abbadie told NBC 6. "Then again, it's kind of like a little awkward looking at yourself, and you're like, 'Oh my God, I'm reliving the moment again.'"
The episode was taped, giving Abbadie, her family and friends a chance to gather at the Las Vegas Restaurant on Coral Way Monday to watch the Florida Memorial University graduate clinch her spot on Shakira's team.
"I was on the edge of my seat. I was like, 'Monique, can you just tell us? She was like, no,'" said Abbadie's friend, Rudy DeArmas.
Said Abbadie’s dad, William: "I just literally freaked out, honestly.”
Growing up in Miami, Abbadie took music and theatre classes, and even made appearances on Spanish-language television. Abbadie believes that lifetime of experiences prepped her well for her sonic showdown Monday against fellow Team Shakira member, Luke Edgemon.
She plans to spend a few more days in South Florida before heading back to Los Angeles to prepare for her next battle round.
