A firefighter was taken to a hospital with a back injury after a two-alarm house fire in Lauderhill Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The fire at 4230 NW 74th Ave. has been extinguished, Lauderhill Fire Rescue said.

Homeowner Grace King said she and her husband left home at about 1:15 p.m. for a doctor’s appointment. When they returned at 3:15 p.m., they found their home engulfed in flames.

“Upon making entry, we found an extremely difficult situation as most of the house inside was already on fire," Lauderhill Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Jerry Gonzalez said.

Three agencies responded with about 12 fire trucks, he said.

Firefighters said they believe the blaze began in the back of the home, though they don’t know exactly where. Most of the rear of the house was destroyed.

Authorities initially appeared to report that one minor was taken to the hospital. But the only person injured was the firefighter, Gonzalez said.

By about 3:30 p.m., water was being poured from a ladder above the structure, and flames were no longer visible from the roof, though smoke still billowed into the sky.
