Florida Highway Patrol on Monday released the name of the tow truck driver killed Saturday in a hit-and-run in Miami.

David Chirinos, 43, died after being hit by a burgundy or maroon older model BMW, while he was giving roadside assistance on State Road 874.

“I want someone to help us fund that person so that he can face the law,” Edvin Chirinos, his brother, said. “There is no way to explain to a 5-year-old that a person killed his father and then went on the run.”

David Chirinos was the father of three children.

Chirinos was assisting a disabled car on southbound State Road 874 by Killian Parkway at about 3 a.m. Saturday when another car veered into the emergency lane, struck the tow truck driver and drove away, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez.

Authorities believe the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run is missing the right outside rearview mirror and has a shattered passenger window.

The right front of the car is believed to have collided with Chirinos causing him to be pinned between two vehicles, Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, the person responsible for the crash continued traveling south on State Road 874, fleeing the scene of the crash.

“We are asking the public to assist in this hit-and-run,” Sanchez said.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 305-470-2700.
