Worker Rescued From Upper Deck of Ship at Port Everglades

Authorities used a tower ladder to carry out a “high-angle rescue” of a worker who was struck by a cargo container at Port Everglades Sunday afternoon, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said.

The unidentified worker, who sustained a leg injury, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale for treatment, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said in a statement.

The 52-year-old Lauderdale Lakes man was working on an upper deck of a cargo ship at Berth 30 in Port Everglades when he was injured. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units from Port Everglades and its Technical Rescue Team responded at 1:19 p.m., the agency said.

The man had to be stabilized and immobilized on the upper deck before he was removed by the Technical Rescue Team with the tower ladder. The rescue was completed just under an hour after authorities were called, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said.
