A Broward taxi driver was home recovering on Thursday after he says he was attacked by two women in his cab.

Taxi driver Joseph Gutierrez de Pineres was attacked when he went to collect the fare from two female passengers while driving his cab. He fought them and jumped out.

Initially, he had picked them up on Fort Lauderdale Beach. He said they told him they wanted to go to a body shop, then to the home of a family member in North Miami Beach, and then to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

"They did look (like) very decent people, they looked decent. They told me 'Sir, I got a job for you. I want to go to a body shop to pick up my property,'" he told NBC 6 on Thursday.

The taxi driver said that they drove around for a while looking for several banks, and then he started to pull over in a quiet residential neighborhood just east of Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale. He had almost stopped the cab when he felt a shirt around his neck and one of the women was pulling it tighter and tighter. He said they tried to strangle him.

"And I tried to fight them back. I got loose and I got out of the cab and they took over. They stole the cab," he said.

He described the women as between the ages of 24 or 25.

Gutierrez de Pineres was back at home on Thursday with a bandage on his forehead.

He said he is scared right now, but eventually, he will have to return to his job as a taxi driver because he needs to pay his bills.
