A Fort Lauderdale man is behind bars after he sexually battered and molested a young girl he was supposed to be babysitting, authorities said Friday.
Scott M. Montgomery, 35, was arrested Thursday on two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and one count of sexual battery on a child, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
According to the report, the alleged acts took place between March 2009 and May 2013, when the girl was between 6 and 10 years old.

The victim told police the acts happened while Montgomery babysat her at his home, and he instructed her not to tell anyone, the affidavit said.
Montgomery was arrested and issued a statement denying the allegations, the affidavit said.
During his first court appearance Friday before Judge Sharon Zeller, Montgomery was ordered held without bond but not before questioning his arrest and asking to be released to care for his kittens.

"Ma'am I'm lost on why there's probable cause because..." Montgomery said, before his audio was turned off in court.
"You're lost on that? Would you like me to read the probable cause affidavit? I don't even want to," Zeller said, asking why the audio was turned off. "Did you turn him off on purpose?"
"You never know what people will say your honor and I'm trying to protect the right to remain silent," a court officer said. "He's saying that he has two cats."
"Two kittens that are locked in my room and I'll lose all of my possessions if I'm not released today. I was supposed to be moving to another location in Hollywood today and the landlord will throw all my stuff away," Montgomery said. "I've got thousands of dollars' worth of clothes and electronics in my room, not to mention the two kittens that are locked in there."

Zeller asked if he wanted someone to contact his landlord regarding the kittens.
"I'd prefer to be released today," Montgomery replied.
"Sir, that's not gonna happen, you will not be released today," Zeller said, suggesting he call someone else to take care of the cats.
Montgomery then insisted the graphic probable cause affidavit be read to him by the judge and started to deny the allegations before his audio was cut off again.
