Flash Flood Warning for Broward, Dade Extended

A flash flood warning was extended for southeastern Broward and northeast Miami-Dade until 9:30 p.m. after cities across the two counties reported flooded roads.

Thunderstorms keep re-developing along the coast, impacting the same areas, the National Weather Service said.

The hardest-hit areas were from Fort Lauderdale to North Miami Beach. East of U.S. 1 has gotten from 6 to 8 inches of rain.

An urban flood advisory was issued for central Broward and extreme northeastern Miami-Dade until 9 p.m. as heavy rain and thunderstorms continued to push to the east-northeast, the weather service said.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said it is helping motorists at several locations whose cars are stuck in flooded streets in Dania Beach. The cars stuck included a gray Chrysler at Southeast 2nd Avenue and Southeast 10th Street and a white Mercury on the 300 block of Southeast 3rd Place, the agency said.

Aventura was also experiencing severe flooding and more than 50 cars reported disabled. In the Aventura Mall cars were submergedin the parking lot, police said.

Hallandale Beach May Joy Cooper urged residents to stay off the roads if possible. She said sandbags were available for residents at the department of public works, located at 630 NW 2nd Street.

Meanwhile, in Sunny Isles there were condos flooded as well.

There were also reports of flooding on Hollywood Blvd.

"We do expect some roads to become impassable, if they aren't already," said Dan Gregoria, a weather service meterologist.
