Hialeah Police released surveillance video on Friday of the suspect they said they're searching for in connection with an attempted armed carjacking robbery earlier this week.

The attempted carjacking occurred Wednesday around 10:40 a.m. in the parking lot of 6175 W. 20th Ave., police said in a statement Friday.

The victim was unloading items from the trunk of his car when the suspect came up and pointed a gun at him, police said. The suspect took the victim's car keys and tried to start the engine, but the car didn't start, according to police.

The suspect quickly left by foot with the victim's keys still in his hand, they said.

Police described the suspect as a black man between 25 and 30 years old who is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has short hair.

Detectives believe the incident may have been connected to another armed carjacking that happened 10 minutes later at 1670 W. 62nd St.

The victim in that case, Leonel Gonzalez Fernandez, said he he had just arrived at a relative's house and had gotten out of the car to talk with his brother and two friends, leaving the car running, when a man dressed in black walked up and took out a gun.

"He yelled at us in English to stand back and pointed the gun at us," Gonzalez Fernandez said in Spanish on Wednesday.

The suspect stole the victim's 2007 silver Toyota Yaris with license plate number X97-6YD, police said.

The suspect managed to elude police despite an extensive citywide search for him and the Yaris, police said.

Although no shots were fired and no one was injured, the suspect is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incidents to call Hialeah Police at 305-687-2525 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
