A Miramar Police captain was sentenced to four years in jail after he was found guilty of making a teen expose her genitals to prove she wasn't having sex.
Juan De Los Rios, 46, is to serve the four-year sentence followed by five years probation as a sex offender, according to the Sun Sentinel.
De Los Rios found a 15-year-old girl talking with a 19-year-old boy talking in the back seat of a car in a Miramar industrial park in January of last year, according to his arrest affidavit. He asked them if they had been having sex in the car, and when they denied it, he told the girl to remove her pants and underwear to make sure, authorities said.
The girl complied out of fear and allowed the officer to "inspect" her with his flashlight. The girl told police he also made her pull down her blouse to check for bruising.
De Los Rios was found guilty in May on one count of lewd and lascivious conduct for forcing the girl to expose her genitals. He was found not guilty of making her remove her shirt.
Broward Circuit Judge Lynn Rosenthal granted De Los Rios a $30,000 bond so he could be out of jail while his attorneys appeal his conviction, the Sun Sentinel reports. He must remain under house arrest during his appeal, unable to get a job or be around minors other than his own teenage stepchildren, the newspaper said.
