Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI) is expanding services for those without healthcare with a new South Miami location.
The South Miami Health Center at 6350 Sunset Drive is now open to provide medical attention to those who cannot afford it.
The center will offer primary care, pediatrics, women’s health, radiology, dental care and behavioral health care, among other services. Payment will be determined based on patient income on a sliding fee scale.
"We service everybody, people like you and me who have health insurance, as well as people who have no income," said CHI spokeswoman Tiffani Helberg.
The South Miami location is the organization's ninth health care center to open in South Florida. A 10th location is expected to open next month at 3831 Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove.
The South Miami and Coconut Grove locations will fill the gap left behind after the closing of the Helen B. Bentley Family Health Center, which lost federal funding in April, according to The Miami Herald.
By mid-summer, CHI also expects to have the 10 health care centers, along with 42 school-based health centers throughout South Florida.
