Investigators were looking into a fire that left a Miami house engulfed in flames Thursday morning.

About 18 firefighters and six fire trucks were called to the scene of the fire that happened at about 8 a.m. at NE 54th Street and 1st Court.

"We received numerous calls of heavy flames that were coming from the windows and possibly the roof," said Miami Fire Rescue Spokesman Iggy Carroll.

The house was boarded up and abandoned and fire rescue was still coming the house Thursday morning to make sure no homeless people had been inside, Carroll said.

Fire Rescue had to pull back due at one point because the roof of the building was unstable, but they were still able to extinguish the flames in about 15 to 20 minutes, Carroll said.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was still undetermined, but it appeared that the building did not have power.

"What we find somewhat strange is that the house had been posted with numerous code violations dated yesterday and today, and then today we have a fire," Carroll said.
