Leonardo da Vinci's art lives on in South Florida.
The Gallery of Amazing Things, located at 481 S. Federal Highway in Dania Beach, will be showcasing a sculpture made from a da Vinci mold at its Design Fair from June 21-23.
The Renaissance man is believed to have made the "Horse and Rider" wax model, which was used to mold the bronze sculpture. The sculpture was in a Swiss vault until 1985, when it was inspected by Carlo Pedretti, the director of the Armand Hammer Center for Leonardo Studies at the University of California in Los Angeles. After examining the beeswax model, Pedretti believed da Vinci made it.
The sculpture in the Design Fair is about 9 inches long, 10 inches high and 3.5 inches wide, said Gregg Whittecar, one of the gallery's owners.
Other items at the fair will be 15 million-year-old fossil relics from private quarries in the United States, crystals from caves in South America, mid-century modern furniture and European ceramics and porcelain.e very excited to bring to Dania Beach this inaugural design fair," Whittecar said.
He said he is also excited for the collection of aviation art and furniture, which are made from actual airplane parts.
