It was moving toward the west-northwest at 12 miles per hour. The center of the tropical depression was expected to move over Belize and northern Guatemala Monday night and early Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said.
The tropical depression was expected to keep heading in the same direction over the coming days, with a decrease in forward speed. The center was expected to move over eastern Mexico later on Tuesday, and may emerge into the Bay of Campeche by early Wednesday.
The tropical depression was expected to weaken as it moves inland, although some strengthening is possible after it emerges into the Bay of Campeche.
The tropical depression was expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with totals of up to 6 inches possible across parts of Belize, Guatemala, northern Honduras and several Mexican states, the National Hurricane Center said.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
