Authorities said they restored the pulse of a man after he nearly drowned in the waters off Miami Beach Monday evening.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue responded to a call of a man drowning in the water near 76th Street and Collins Avenue, spokesman Capt. Adonis Garcia said.

The main in his 50s went swimming after having some alcoholic drinks, according to witnesses. But he ran into trouble in the water and had to be pulled out by other beachgoers.

Bystanders called 911 at 7:43 p.m., and rescuers arrived two minutes later. They found the victim not breathing and intubated him, and then got a pulse, Garcia said.

He was then taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he arrived at 8:13 p.m., Garcia said. There was no word on his condition there Monday night.
