Law enforcement officers wrapped up work two days of work at an Opa-locka lot Tuesday without finding anything conclusive in their search for a missing Hallandale Beach woman, a police spokesman said.
Evidence was taken from the site in paper bags that contained women's apparel, but police now have to test to see if any of the clothing recovered has ties to Lynda Meier, who went missing more than three years ago, Opa-locka Police spokesman David Chiverton said.
Earlier Tuesday, at about 7 a.m., officers with the Hallandale Beach Police, Opa-locka Police, Miami-Dade Police and Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrived to resume their search of the eight-acre lot in the area of Northwest 178th Avenue and Service Road.
The clothing recovered was worn from being exposed to the elements at the site, Chiverton said. Police will check whether there is anything significant among the items they retrieved, he said.
On Monday, several officers were clearing brush and vegetation at the overgrown lot as part of the search for Meier, who was last seen leaving her Hallandale Beach condo on June 4, 2010.
Foul Play Feared in Hallandale Beach Woman's Disappearance
Officers returned Tuesday with search and cadaver dogs, and planned to clear more brush from the area.
Hallandale Beach Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy said Monday's search was done after police received an anonymous tip.
"With all that information we decided we needed to come here and perform a search of this area to see if we can find anything related to the disappearance of Lynda Meier," Flournoy said. "It could be property, it could be her remains, it could be items that we know that she was in possession of at the time that she disappeared."
Police Question Men In Hallandale Beach Woman's Disappearance
Several searches have been done in the past three years for Meier, whose car – a Cadillac Escalade – was found a week after her disappearance, abandoned in a parking lot in Opa-locka.
Two men who were captured on video using Meier's ATM card at two different Miami banks the same day she disappeared were named persons of interest, but so far no one has been charged in her disappearance.
