Two bodies were found at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach Wednesday morning, according to WPTV.

Fire Rescue and police crews responded to the scene at 501 S. Sapodilla Avenue just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, the station reported.

They entered a window at the rear of the school building to recover the bodies, WPTV said.

A SWAT team was called to the school as a precautionary measure, West Palm Beach Police spokesman Capt. David Bernhardt said in a press conference.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the two people, but Palm Beach County School District officials told WPTV that one of the people found dead is a school custodian.

The bodies were found in what appeared to be a maintenance or supply area, Bernhardt said.

He said the cause of death remained unclear and that police are treating the case as an open death investigation.

"That way we're not limiting ourselves to what type of investigation we're doing," Bernhardt said. "It could turn out to be a homicide investigation or a normal death investigation."

Officials could not confirm that a crime had been committed, Bernhardt said.

Former Dreyfoos students were in disbelief following the discovery of the bodies.

"I can't believe this is happening at my school," recent graduate Matthew Baquero said. "This is stuff you see on the news somewhere in Connecticut or some other state, but I can't imagine this happening at my school."

Linton Swaby, who graduated in culinary arts, was also in shock.

"To look back and see it is unbelievable. That's all I can say," Swaby said.
