A man is in custody after he was seen shooting outside his Plantation home, officials said.
Officials said the man opened fire in front of his lawn just before 3 a.m. and later barricaded himself inside the home on Northwest 65th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard, according to Plantation Police.
Police officers evacuated the man's family members from the home and told neighbors to stay inside while a SWAT team negotiated with the shooter.
"The Crisis Response Team and the SWAT team were able to remedy the issue," said Plantation Police spokesman Det. Robert Rettig. "The subject ended up coming out voluntarily. Right now, we're trying to determine if this subject was either intoxicated or had some other mental incapacity to find out why this issue occurred."
Authorities said the man did not appear to be shooting at anyone in particular. His identity was not immediately known.
