Approximately 1,250 pounds of seized cocaine worth an estimated $19 million were offloaded by the Coast Guard in Miami Beach Monday morning.

The cocaine was discovered on May 29, when the Coast Guard cutter Bertholf received a report from a Customs and Border Protection aircraft crew of a small go-fast vessel about 305 miles southwest of Cocos Island, Costa Rica, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard was able to stop the vessel and found a package that later tested positive for cocaine. Six suspected smugglers were detained and the Coast Guard sank the vessel as a hazard to navigation.

The suspected smugglers were transferred to Drug Enforcement Agency officials in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
