A man arrested for trespassing in Marathon was given additional charges after he took a briefcase full of marijuana with him to jail.

Jeff Pollock, 42, was taken into custody Saturday after his ex-girlfriend called deputies saying he refused to leave her home on Camino Real in Marathon, said a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release.

The ex-girlfriend, whose name was not released, told deputies she let him stay the night, but when she told him to leave, he refused and laughed at her, the release said.

Pollock told deputies he lived at the apartment, but the officer on duty reminded Pollock he had helped him move out just a few months earlier, officials said. The victim also had a copy of Pollock's current lease, proving he lived somewhere else. Pollock had a previous trespass warning at that home as well, officials said.

He was arrested for trespass after warning, but before he was taken away, he told deputies he had a briefcase with cash inside that he wanted to take to jail with him, the release said. When a deputy asked Pollock for the code to open it, he refused to give it to him.

Once Pollock arrived at the Marathon Detention Center, he agreed to give deputies the code, and they opened it, finding $9,480 in cash and 27 grams of marijuana inside, the release said.

Pollock was charged with possession of marijuana and introduction of marijuana into a detention facility. The cash was seized for possible forfeiture, according to officials.

He was released Sunday on $27,000 bond, according to online jail records.
