Passenger Identified in Dangling Truck Crash

Police on Tuesday released the name of the passenger killed when a box delivery truck he was in crashed and was left dangling off the side of a South Florida highway overpass.

Fort Lauderdale Police said they were identifying 37-year-old Algie Omar Clark in an effort to locating his family. Clark lived in Miami, police said. Anyone who has contact information or knows where to find his family is asked to contact investigators at 954-828-5754.

The incident occurred at 5:25 a.m. on the State Road 84 westbound on-ramp from Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 6.

Two people were in the 2001 Isuzu Tracy Bakery truck when exited I-95 northbound and tried to make a left turn and head west on State Road 84 and struck a barrier wall along the State Road 84 overpass, authorities said. The truck's front end was leaning against a pillar.

Firefighters pulled the driver, 43-year-old Burenaventura Fernandez Jr., of Miami, from the truck. He was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was in stable condition, Garcia said.

Clark, the passenger remained inside the truck and had been unresponsive, authorities said. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Three tow trucks were brought to the scene and were able to pull the truck back onto the overpass about an hour and a half after the crash.

Debris from the truck fell onto a car that was driving on I-95 below, but no one was injured, officials said.
