Wynwood, which has become an area known for art galleries and gourmet restaurants, will soon be the home of a new shooting range.
But Lock & Load Miami won’t be your average shooting range – with shooting sessions that reach $575.
The high-end facility, which is expected to open in July, will have an “a la carte menu” of guns, including fully automatic machine guns, submachine guns, shotguns and handguns.
In addition to its variety of guns, the establishment at 2545 N. Miami Ave. is expected to offer viewing windows from a VIP room, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
The experience at Lock & Load will not come cheap. The shooting packages range from $82.50 to $575.
“I think you’re going to get a wide range of people. The gun enthusiast; people looking for something different; somebody buys a package for a Father’s Day gift,” general manager Mike Pryor told the The Miami Herald. “We expect to see tourists and people just looking to have fun. It’s very controlled. It’s very safe.”
But neighbors have mixed feelings regarding the location of the 22,000-square-foot soundproof facility.
“I don’t think it’s anything that would interest our patrons,” Kareem Tabsch, co-founder of the O Cinema, told the newspaper.
“I don’t know where this neighborhood is going. Why would they have that when they’re trying to cater to the artier, hipster crowd?” Jack Silk, general manager of the Pride & Joy BBQ, told the Herald.
But according to the report, the range will be safe and customers will have the supervision of a veteran weapons specialist.
“It’s the opportunity to experience trying out firearms that most people don’t even get to see,” Pryor said.
