A plumber said he found a human skull as he was doing work on a South Florida golf course Monday.
Clayton Thomas Merritt discovered a clay pot containing the skull during a dive in a canal at the Margate Executive Golf Course, at 8000 Margate Blvd.
"I only come across golf balls when I'm trying to remove a motor underwater, or cleaning a screen or expect it. I don't come across skulls too often," he said.
Merritt said he found knives near two clay pots that were underwater. He poured the pots' contents out on land, discovering religious trinkets in one and the intact skull in the other.

Merritt and his coworker from Sullivan Electric and Plumbing called Margate Police.
Authorities established a crime scene and collected evidence, and Broward Sheriff's Office divers searched in the water after Merritt's discovery.
"It appears to be an older skull that has been here a long time," Margate Police Lt. Andy Zettick said.

The medical examiner determined it was a human skull. Police said the medical examiner would work to identify it.
"It's unknown whether or not the skull had been acquired for ritualistic purposes, or if it's the skull of a homicide victim," Zettick said.
