The National Hotel in South Beach has been closed for unsafe conditions and life safety issues under orders from the Fire Marshall and building official, a spokeswoman for Miami Beach said Tuesday.
"It will not reopen until all the work is completed," Nannette Rodriguez said in an email statement.
The Miami Herald reported that the hotel's general manager, Jacques Roy, said it could reopen by next week, but said there is no specific day.
A total of 74 workers were given notice, and a form letter to them said they were temporary layoffs, the newspaper reported.
The hotel, which had been undergoing renovations, has been closed since July 15, Roy said. He also said that the appropriate documents are being prepared for inspectors.
