Minna Singh said when it rains it pours inside her top-floor apartment at Northeast 3rd Court and 187th Street in Miami Gardens.
A leaky roof she's been dealing with since 2002 has taken a toll on her belongings, and her kitchen drawers won't close because of the water damage, she said.
She also has a gaping hole in her bedroom ceiling. Singh said the ceiling opened up last week when it was raining. She was asleep and was woken up by a mixture of water and drywall.
"When I was sleeping here the other night , that portion fell down and then we had to get up and leave the bed," Singh said. Since then, she has been sleeping on her sofa, she said.
NBC 6 contacted the property manager at the Star Lakes condominiums, Alina Perez, who explained that the roof was fixed in 2002 following a storm and Singh never allowed them to go into her home to see the leaks that she says continued. Just recently, the soffit outside of her door opened up and when the association went to repair that, the building department requested the entire roof be fixed and that is what is going to happen.
Since Monday a group of workers have been repairing the entire roof. Signs posted around the building let neighbors know the improvements are coming. Singh said those improvements are long overdue.
"My whole life I never lived like this," she said.
