An armed police impersonator robbed an elderly man of $4,000 in cash on his way home from a bank in Little Havana Thursday afternoon, Miami Police said.

After the victim went to a Chase Bank a few blocks away, a man driving a black SUV who pretended to be a police officer approached him outside his home at 1835 Southwest 10th St. shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

He showed a gun and a badge, and stole the money the victim just took out of the bank, along with his wallet and cell phone, police said.

"He's not doing too good. He’s not feeling good. No comment right now,” said a relative of the victim as he stood next to him in his home.

The crime left neighbors including Gloria Gonzalez worried.

"I feel so awful honey, because sometimes I go to the bank, and I walk into the bank, and my husband says, 'You have to be careful,’” she said.

Neighbors saw the incident, but thought the victim was just talking to a friend.

"I cried because I feel so sorry for that man,” Gonzalez said. “He's a very good neighbor and very good man.”

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
