Tropical Storm Dorian was weakening while it moved rapidly across the Atlantic Ocean Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

As of 5 p.m., the storm, located about 1135 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, was moving west-northwest at 22 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds at 45 miles per hour.

Dorian's quick movement will likely rip it apart a bit, keeping it from developing quickly. Slow weakening is expected during the next day or so, the NHC said.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect and it does not yet pose a hazard to land.

The storm could bring rain into South Florida as early as Wednesday or Thursday.
