Fort Lauderdale Police have released surveillance video taken Monday of a woman fighting off an attacker trying to snatch her gold chain.
"She is ambushed from behind by a suspect. He grabs her by the neck, he attempts to grab her gold chain and rip it from her neck," Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Greenlaw said.

The victim, who doesn’t want to be identified, still has the chain. However, the clasp is broken.
"He say he want it, he say gimme, gimme this, gimme this. I say no it’s mine," the victim recalled.
The incident happened at about 10:03 a.m. Monday outside of an apartment complex at 3815 Southwest 16th St. as the victim was walking home, police said.
An unknown Good Samaritan saw what happened and yelled at the suspect until he released the victim and fled, police said.
The woman said the scratches around her neck have healed but she still has a bruise on her arm.
"Typically we do not suggest for victims to fight off anyone. We do not suggest for anyone to really put themselves in harm’s way," Greenlaw said.
The camera that captured the crime is right in front of a police substation in the building where the victim lives.

Why did she fight back instead letting him take the chain?
She says she worked hard to buy the chain for herself eight years ago.
"It cost me money and I couldn’t let him just take it you understand,” she said.
