A man was shot and killed during a confrontation with two security guards in Lauderdale Lakes early Thursday, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. in the parking lot at the Whispering Palms community at 4530 Northwest 36th Street, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

According to the BSO, the two security guards were off-duty and coming home when they encountered the man who was blasting music in his car.

When they asked the man to lower the music, the confrontation ensued, and one of the guards opened fire, the BSO said.

"Anytime that you're dealing with having someone playing loud music, is death something that should be a result in any kind of confrontation between two people? I would say not," BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said. "I would say you hope that anytime two people have a disagreement or just have to have some sort of an exchange that it would be amicable enough where you can just say what you have to say and both parties leave without an incident."

The victim hasn't been identified and it was unknown whether he was armed.

His roommate, who only wanted to be identified as "Taby," said she wanted more answers.

"That still doesn't give a good enough reason," she said. "For him to be shot in the back, for playing loud music? No."

Both of the guards have a concealed weapons permit but it's unknown if both were armed at the time of the shooting, the BSO said.

"For one of our security guys to draw, they would have to feel threatened, we're trained for that," head of property security Dimitri Bellegarde said.

The shooting is still being investigated.
