A woman was arrested in southwest Florida for allegedly using her children to steal another woman's wallet and cellphone, CrimeStoppers reported.

Shanice Stewart, 25, was arrested Friday for grand theft after allegedly using a child to steal a woman's wallet from a Fort Myers Gymboree on Tuesday, CrimeStoppers reported.

When Stewart, who was with a woman and five children, got to the checkout counter, another woman was speaking with an employee. Stewart entered the conversation, and one of the children swiped the woman's wallet, which was left on the counter, CrimeStoppers reported.

Once they had the stolen wallet in their possession, the group left the store and drove away. The child also took the victim's phone, but that was found shortly after on the side of the road, CrimeStoppers reported.

Within an hour, the victim's credit cards were used twice at a Pier One Imports for charges of more than $200. It was also used at a Foot Locker for two purchases of about $400.

The group returned to make a third purchase of about $600 in shoes. However, the card was declined that time, CrimeStoppers reported.

Stewart was arrested Friday and released Saturday on a $13,000 bond, according to online jail records.

She is a registered convicted felon with a rap sheet dating back to grand theft auto at the age of 14. She has previously spent time in jail in both Collier and Manatee counties, CrimeStoppers reported.
