A man who was seen walking with a rifle into an Oakland Park apartment complex has died after a deputy shot him Wednesday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies told him to drop the weapon but he did not, and a deputy then fired on him, the BSO said.

Authorities got two 911 calls saying that the man was walking with a rifle, and he went to Green Tree Apartments near N. Dixie Highway and Commercial Boulevard. Two deputies followed him before the shooting happened at 5201 N. Dixie Highway, the BSO said.

The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he died, the BSO said.

Michael Entenza, who works nearby, said he heard five gunshots. He said he saw the man who was shot.

“He was bleeding all on his chest. And I don’t think he’s going to make it,” Entenza said.

Another witness said she heard three shots.
