Police are investigating after an Allapattah business owner was shot while trying to help another man who was being robbed.

Carolina Jeronimo told NBC 6 she was on her way back into work at a strip mall on the 3600 block of NW 17th Avenue when she saw her boss on the ground being held at gunpoint by a man at about 11 a.m. Saturday.

"He said, 'Come inside, come inside,'" Jeronimo said. "I said no and I ran to the barber where I know my friend."

Her friend who works next door ran over to help out, but when he arrived he was shot by the robber, she said.

Meanwhile Jeronimo hid in the bathroom where she heard the confrontation.

"All I hear in the bathroom is that he's screaming, 'Please don't shoot me, please don't shoot me,'" Jeronimo said. "But when we come outside we just see Jose Luis with his hand cut and blood on the floor all over."

The robber took the robbery victim's wallet and fled, according to witnesses. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, told NBC 6 he had $2,300 in the wallet that he was planning on using that money to pay rent.

Miami Police spent most of the afternoon collecting evidence at the storefronts. Witnesses said the suspect fled in a Grey Impala.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471- TIPS (8477).
