Two suspects were apprehended after they were seen throwing what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail inside a vacant Allapattah home Wednesday, Miami Police said.
A police officer saw the house at 1223 Northwest 37th St. engulfed in flames at about 5:50 p.m.
A witness told her that she saw the suspect who started the fire, and gave a full description of the men, who she saw running after they threw the "flammable object," police said.
Two men who fit the description were taken into custody shortly thereafter. Burglary detectives are interviewing them, and charges are pending, police said.
There was extensive damage to the rear of the duplex, Miami Police spokeswoman Officer Kenia Reyes said.
There was no power in the duplex but squatters were inside, Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.
Miami Police ask anyone with information to call their Burglary Unit at 305-603-6030 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
