Authorities are searching for a man who is accused of robbing a home, and physically and sexually battering a woman.
A man forced a woman into her home on the 2900 block of NW 9 Terrace on Aug. 14, demanding money, Wilton Manors Police said Monday.
After asking for the money, the man committed a sexual battery on the woman and fled east towards Powerline Road on Northwest 29th Street, authorities said.
Police went door to door Monday, handing out flyers of the suspect they seek.
“This individual forced a lady back into her own home, brutally beat her, sexually battered her and took money, items of value and fled the area,” Sgt. Shawn Chadwick said.
Neighbors said they have strengthened security measures since the attack.
“Pretty much anyone that comes probably down our road again, they'll be stopped immediately. We’re all preparing ourselves and taking the necessary precautions to protect ourselves,” neighbor Rene Kiusalaas said. “So we're still installing cameras and doing other things necessary.”
Kiusalaas said she is truly hurt by what happened. She knows the victim and wishes she could have done something to help her, she said.
“A lot of us were home at the time which is the very heartbreaking thing about it all, to know that we were home while she was” going through a “traumatic, evil experience,” Kiusalaas said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
