A woman was shot on a Hollywood intersection Friday morning, officials said.
The unidentified woman was shot in the area of 52nd Ave. and Sheridan Street, Hollywood Police spokesman Sgt. Pablo Vanegas said.
"When we got on scene, her purse was on the ground, personal articles on the ground," he said. "We're not exactly sure what happened."
Vanegas said it is unknown why the woman was shot, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Police cars blocked off eastbound Sheridan Street for more than an hour as the investigation took place, but nearby Sheridan Technical Center did not go on lockdown.
Witnesses told police they saw a silver, two-door Audi fleeing the scene.
Officials said they believe a later incident involving a car that was driven into a canal is related to the shooting.
At 8:44 a.m., a man was seen driving a car through a fence and into a canal behind Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, officials said. He jumped out of the car and let it coast into the body of water before fleeing on foot, according to police.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
