One person was killed and three others were injured after a violent crash at a Miami-Dade College campus in Liberty City early Tuesday.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. at MDC's Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center at 6300 Northwest 7th Avenue.

Miami Police said one person was killed at the scene and three others were hospitalized, one in critical condition and the other two in stable condition.

The driver fled the scene on foot and checked into Jackson Memorial Hospital, police said. He was later taken into custody but hasn't been identified and police haven't said what charges he'll face.

Police said the car, a 2013 Lincoln, was stolen from the area of Northwest 13th Avenue and Northwest 147th Street on August 18.

The cause of the crash is unknown and police haven't identified the victims. One witness said he saw the car going out of control down the street.

"He spun out of control, by the time he caught any kind of control over it, it was too late, he was heading in the wrong direction straight into the college," witness Rodney Payne said. "Boom, he hits the college, the car is crumbled, it immediately catches on fire."

The college announced that daytime classes at the school would be cancelled on Tuesday.

"The police investigation into the incident and ensuing inspection and clean-up of the site are preventing regularly scheduled daytime classes from taking place," Miami-Dade College spokesman Juan Mendieta said in a statement. "While it is anticipated that the Center will reopen for evening classes, the college leadership will keep students and employees at the facility informed regarding the status of operations."

The street near the school would also remained closed until structural engineers inspected a light pole that was struck by the car, police said. Engineers would also be inspecting the building Tuesday.

Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
