A woman who was being arrested for a DUI tried to steal a deputy's patrol vehicle, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Sara Ashley Kirksey, 24, gave deputies a false name and date of birth after getting pulled over for running a red light, the sheriff’s office said.
Kirksey was arrested for DUI and placed in the back of the patrol car, according to the statement.
But in order to escape, Kirksey “managed to slip out of her handcuffs and climb through the divider window to slide into the driver’s seat,” the sheriff’s office said.
“As the deputy prevented her from taking off, she hit him several times with a closed fist,” the statement said.
Kirksey remains in Okaloosa County Jail and is being held on a $7,500 bond. It wasn’t immediately known if she had an attorney.
