On the corner of Northeast 167th Street and 6th Avenue is a shocking sight. Regular gas at the Chevron station is is $4.85 a gallon.

"It's definitely hurting my pockets, and I think it's ridiculous," said customer Duvalier Arceneaux.

Jesse Sanchez took off without filling up when he saw the price.

"I mean that's like almost minimum wage for some people. It's crazy," said Sanchez. In fact, minimum wage for tipped employees is $4.77.

The manager at that station would not talk to NBC 6 or give contact information for the owner.

Another customer, Joey Garzi, spent more than $72 to fill up his tank on Tuesday.

"My car's not exactly fuel efficient, so it's killing me, but what choice do Ihave," asked Garzi.

Actually, just six blocks away regular gas is almost $1 less for the same brand. Prices over $4 are common along U.S.1  from Dadeland to North Miami.

"I wouldn't drive for miles looking for a better deal. Because you waste the gas driving further to save a dime," said Ricki Goodman.

Three tourists staying on South Beach drove to North Miami to save on gas. They used the app gasbuddy.com to find a better price.

You don't need an app or have to go far to save some money. Regular is $4.15 at the Shell on southwest 65th Avenue, and it's 16 cents less just two blocks away.

From downtown Miami to northeast 36th Street prices are generally higher that other areas.

The cheapest gas we found is at the Hess on East 114 Street and Biscayne Boulevard $3.79 for regular.
