One man was killed and another left in critical condition after they were shot during an attempted robbery outside an Opa-locka supermarket late Tuesday, police said.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in a shopping center in the area of 140th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue, Opa-locka Police spokesman Julio Padron said.
Padron said the victims, who are in their 20s, were visiting family members who own a couple stores in the shopping center when they decided to go to the supermarket.

They were ambushed by the suspect, who attempted to rob them, but at one point the robbery went awry and the two men ended up shot, Padron said.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was in critical condition, Padron said. Police didn't identify the victims.
Police believe the suspect was targeting pieces of jewelry one of the victims was wearing.
