A man who was fatally shot in a confrontation about loud music last week was a 22-year-old Lauderdale Lakes resident, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
The young man, Sebastian Welds, was shot and killed by Joel Dunkley, one of two off-duty security guards who approached Welds’ vehicle last Thursday to ask him to lower the volume of his music, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Dunkley, also 22, and the other off-duty guard, Lucien Dixon, 24, said they were returning from a night out about 3:15 a.m. that day when they heard the music coming from a dark-colored sedan parked in the lot, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the guards’ account to the Sheriff’s Office:
The guards approached the vehicle, and Dixon asked Welds to lower the volume. The exchange escalated when Welds stepped out of his vehicle and confronted Dixon.
Dunkley saw Welds reach in the direction of Dixon’s gun. Dunkley feared for their safety and shot Welds.

The Sheriff’s Office said the guards, who were armed and have valid concealed weapons permits, waited for deputies to arrive and have cooperated with investigators.
A third security guard, who was on duty and saw the incident, provided a corroborating statement to investigators, the Sheriff’s Office said.
