One man was hospitalized and another person in custody after a shooting and an armed burglary in Deerfield Beach early Tuesday, authorities said.
The shooting was reported just after 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Southwest 3rd Street, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.

Authorities responded and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue took the man to North Broward Medical Center as a trauma alert, Moschella said.
Minutes after the shooting, a break-in was reported at a home about a block away and the two are believed to be related, Moschella said.
"The time and the proximity to the other house, they're almost catty corner to each other and it happened just minutes after," she said.
Jannie Morris said an armed man broke into her nephew's home, pistol-whipping the nephew.

"He said 'I'm running from somebody, can y'all hide me,' and he said 'no, I'm calling the police,'" Morris said.
Morris said her nephew got into a struggle with the suspect and wrestled over the gun which eventually fell out of his hands.
"Him and his wife and his stepson put the whooping on him," Morris said.
Moschella said the family helped deputies take the man into custody.
"When deputies arrived to this home they found the homeowner and another woman in the front yard with a suspect, they were sitting on him and holding him at knifepoint," Moschella said. "I commend the homeowner for his bravery, although I don't recommend it, but it seems like the burglar chose the wrong house."
The shooting victim and suspect haven't been identified. Moschella said the victim is expected to survive.
