An Islamorada man was arrested after he threatened several people, including a deputy, with an 11 inch knife, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Stuart Ross Paterson, 29, was charged with two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A deputy responded to Ponce DeLeon Blvd. on Thursday afternoon when authorities got a report of someone disrupting traffic, hitting cars and threatening passerby.

Deputy Gregg Johnson saw Paterson with a large knife in his hand walking to two occupied cars, agreesively swinging the knife from side to side.

Johnson pulled up near the cars, took out his gun and identified himself, telling him to drop the knife.
Paterson instead walked towards Johnson with the knife, who knew him previously. The deputy knew Paterson's nickname is Rossee so he yelled at him again to drop the knife, using his nickname.

That's when Paterson put the knife on the gorund and was then taken into custody.

A plastic bag of cocaine was found in his pocket, authorities said.

Both drivers of the two cars said he had threatened them and feared he would've hurt him, authorites said.

The cocaine was sent to Florida Department of Law Enforcement for analysis after which he may face further charges.
